Something happened the other day that brought to my attention the importance of really being aware of ways in which we fight, work against, and possibly hurt ourselves through subconscious self-sabotage.
I noticed a bird that was perched at the back of our car, and it was regularly fluttering and pecking at the rear window. I saw this off and on all day, and after looking throughly to make sure it wasn’t distressed about babies or hunting for bugs, figured that the bird was likely upset with its reflection.
This theory was confirmed when googling it, and my husband and I found out that this aggressive behavior is due to the bird defending his territory. Unfortunately, birds who confront and attack their reflections are at risk of exhausting and injuring themselves! So we did what the article recommended, and covered the window with paper. And it worked!
This got me thinking: how often do we risk exhaustion and injury to ourselves by fighting dreams, shadows, and reflections of ourselves within? It’s time to pay particular attention to any feeling of anger turned inward, and remember to be gentle with ourselves. Remember that we are stronger than we know, and that using our energy constructively is the way to go, vs. pecking / picking at our reflections. SELF-LOVE, not self-sabotage!
So, in times in which we are tempted to have negative self-talk, visualize papering your mind over with brown-paper-bag, secure it all with packing tape, in order to keep yourself protected from pecks!

In today’s podcast (titled: “Counting Blessings” and Completion), The World card announced itself in the ‘Guidance Card Pull’ portion. When I read the positive descriptors that go along with this particular tarot card, my head rolled back, my tongue rollsed out Homer Simpson-style, and I literally salivated.
Phrases like: “achieving your heart’s desire, seeing dreams come true, taking pleasure in life, enjoying peace of mind, getting satisfaction, finding contentment, etc.–reading the words tickles me. Maybe it’s because I’m starting to feel this level of satisfaction in my life, on a level never experienced before.
I feel good today. I consciously realized it and took a moment to feel it more fully so as to remember it. I want to remember what it feels like in my body, so that I can call it back when I fall into a ‘muck and yuck’ mindspace.
The funny thing is, I had this personal epiphany as I was cleaning the toilet. Once I realized that, I tried to shift my thoughts for reasons that I don’t entirely understand. Did I think that I wasn’t giving the experience enough respect? God / Universal Energy / Source / Spirit doesn’t care if I was cleaning a toilet! God would love the fact that I’m thankful for receiving blessings and feeling good as I clean—talk about cleaning up my ‘muck and yuck’!
So I was left with this abiding lesson: when we feel good (which we do and will), really soak it up and marinate in it, so that it can linger and / or you can more easily recall it and feel it again when dealing with harder times during our personal work. We want to clean up our s*it, and feeling good while doing it helps on all levels.
Meditation or medication? That is a quote that I read long ago, and it’s stuck with me. I truly believe in the positive benefits of meditation, even as I struggle to do it on a regular basis myself! The thing to remember is that however often we do it, and for however long we do it, WE WILL BENEFIT IN A POSITIVE WAY. Even if you sit for 1 minute and try to clear your mind.
